Girl, Can I Have Your Number???
One day I was stopped in Wal-Mart and complimented on my healthy mane. I said thank you of course, we chit-chatted a bit and then she asked me a question I simply could not answer: "What's your curl number?" With a confused look on my face I asked, "Huh, my what?". I had no idea at this time that curl types had associated numbers. I was now curious. Later that day I googled Hair Types by Number and there before me pops up several charts containing pictures of different hair types, celebrities who has the same hair type, and the number (and some numbers had sub letters) associated with the hair type. After carefully looking over the chart, I determined that I am a 3C and that Tracy Ellis Ross is my celebrity curl twin. After establishing this, my next question was: "So what's the importance of knowing your hair type. I did a bit of online research and found out that different hair types require different products. Knowing your hair type and buying products that cater to your hair type ensures that your hair gets exactly what it needs to thrive and live up to its full potential. Interesting! I found out that 3Cs need EXTRA moisture since it is so fragile. So my hair benefits from creams, oils, and butters, which is what found out by trial and error BEFORE running into the girl in Wal-Mart that day. I could have saved myself a bunch of time, energy, money, and frustration at the beginning of my natural journey had I known what products my hair truly needed to be at its absolute best. Well I know now, and now it is your turn!! Below is the chart that I used in determining my hair type. Look at it carefully, determine your hair type and engage in some research to find out what products to buy for that particular hair type. I hope that this will be as much as a help to you as it was for me!
